Mechanical Sea World

Hello everyone! I am Lia and I am here today with a new mixed media project. I worked in my Art Journal this time. I had this lovely Stamperia paper collection for some time and I wanted to make something with it. I guess you all know by now, that I am not  a steampunk person. I do enjoy some grunge sometimes but that is all. This paper collection is full on steampunk, yet, I love it!  Let’s start with the materials I used:

• Ranger Multi Medium – Matte
• Ranger Texture Paste Opaque Crackle
• Stamperia Stencil – Compass
• Stamperia Paper Pack – Mechanical Sea World
• Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen Brushes (alternatively you could use Distress Crayons)

As it is tradition, I started with the background. I wanted a background that would match the colours of my papers, so I used reis paper from the same collection. I carefully stuck the reis paper on my pages, using Multi Medium Matt and then I used a nail buffer to scrape of the excess from the edges. I could cut the paper with scissors, but I like how much more natural it looks when I just scrape the edges of. The colours of the reis paper were a little bit to bold for a background so I used a bit of Gesso and a Brayer to add some white. I dried the Gesso and moved on to the next layer, which was stenciling! I chose the Stamperia Compass stencil and my all time favourite Ranger Texture Crackle Paste and I added a bit of texture and design on the pages. And with that, the background was done!

For my main images and my sentiment, I just cut everything out of the Stamperia Mechanical Sea World paper pad. I chose the big jellyfish, some gears, some big letters and words, some random images and some stripes of paper. I arranged the stripes of paper all around the edges of my pages and then I added the rest of the images wherever I liked them. There are really no rules to how I build this sort of pages. I just add things I liked wherever I think they would look good. My sentiment says “Let the sea set you free” and it appears twice on this project, as a decorative word and as a main sentiment. In the end, I used my Faber- Castel Pitt Artist Pens to add some extra colour and shading. Of course, all of the paper on my pages was covered with Multi Medium Matt which means that it was turned into a non porous surface. That is needed in order to use the Pitt Artist Pens. Instead of these Pens, I could have used Distress Crayons in the very same way. I would just apply the colour and smudge it with my finger. There is never just one way to do things and that is exactly what I like about crafting. Each one of us does things in her/his own way and that is really exciting!

Hallo zusammen! Ich bin Lia und ich bin heute mit einem neuen Mixed-Media-Projekt hier. Diesmal habe ich an meinem Kunstjournal gearbeitet. Ich hatte diese schöne Stamperia-Papierkollektion schon seit einiger Zeit und wollte etwas damit machen. Ich schätze, ihr wisst mittlerweile alle, dass ich kein Steampunk-Typ bin. Ich mag zwar manchmal etwas Grunge, aber das ist alles. Diese Papierkollektion ist zwar voll von Steampunk, aber ich liebe sie! Beginnen wir mit den Materialien, die ich verwendet habe:

Wie es Tradition ist, habe ich mit dem Hintergrund begonnen. Ich wollte einen Hintergrund, der zu den Farben meiner Papiere passt, also habe ich Reispapier aus derselben Kollektion verwendet. Ich habe das Reispapier vorsichtig mit Multi Medium Matt auf meine Seiten geklebt und danach habe ich einen Nailbuffer verwendet, um den Überschuss von den Rändern abzukratzen. Ich könnte das Papier mit einer Schere schneiden, aber mir gefällt, wie viel natürlicher es aussieht, wenn ich nur die Kanten abkratze. Die Farben des Reispapiers waren für einen Hintergrund etwas zu kräftig, also habe ich etwas Gesso und einen Brayer verwendet, um etwas Weiß hinzuzufügen. Ich habe das Gesso getrocknet und bin zur nächsten Schicht übergegangen, nämlich dem Schablonieren! Ich habe mich für die Stamperia Compass-Schablone und meine allzeit beliebte Ranger Texture Crackle Paste entschieden und den Seiten ein wenig Textur und Design hinzugefügt. Und damit war der Hintergrund fertig!

Für meine Hauptbilder und meinen Spruch habe ich einfach alles aus dem Stamperia Mechanical Sea World-Papierblock ausgeschnitten. Ich habe mich für die große Qualle, ein paar Zahnräder, ein paar große Buchstaben und Wörter, ein paar zufällige Bilder und ein paar Papierstreifen entschieden. Ich habe die Papierstreifen rund um die Ränder meiner Seiten angeordnet und dann die restlichen Bilder dort hinzugefügt, wo sie mir gefallen haben. Ich habe wirklich keine Regeln dafür, wie ich diese Art von Seiten aufbaue. Ich füge einfach Dinge hinzu, die mir gefallen, wo ich denke, dass sie gut aussehen würden. Mein Spruch lautet „Lass das Meer dich befreien“ und kommt in diesem Projekt zweimal vor, als dekoratives Wort und als Hauptsatz. Am Ende habe ich meine Faber-Castel Pitt Artist Pens verwendet, um etwas zusätzliche Farbe und Schattierung hinzuzufügen. Natürlich war das gesamte Papier auf meinen Seiten mit Multi Medium Matt überzogen, was bedeutet, dass es eine nicht poröse Oberfläche erhielt. Diese wird für die Verwendung der Pitt Artist Pens benötigt. Anstelle dieser Stifte hätte ich auf die gleiche Weise auch Distress Crayons verwenden können. Ich würde die Farbe einfach auftragen und mit dem Finger verwischen. Es gibt nie nur eine Art, Dinge zu tun, und genau das gefällt mir am Basteln. Jeder von uns macht die Dinge auf ihre/seine eigene Art und Weise und das ist wirklich spannend!
