Hello everyone! Welcome back to another Mixed Media project. July is here and I thought we should welcome the month with a Christmas project. Because it is Christmas in July! Also, I was looking for a reason to use my Snarky Cats stamp set 😛 Let’s start with the materials I used:

For today’s project, I worked in a watercolour book, as I knew I was going to use wet mediums. I started with a good layer of Gesso, in order to reinforce my paper. Next, I added some texture, using the Poinsettia Layering stencil with Ranger Distress Translucent Grit Paste. I like applying the Paste first, before the colour, because then the colour pools around the Paste and it creates a very nice effect. I allowed the Paste to dry before I add colour. To colour my pages, I used Distress Oxide inks, in colours: Pine Needles, Mustard Seed, Candied Apple and Spun Sugar. I sprayed with the inks, I added some water, I left the colours to mix a little bit, I dabbed off the excess and then I dried the pages. I used one colour combination at a time (first the green and yellow and then the red and pink) because I didn’t want them to mix too much. It is always easier to control it when I use one colour at a time. After my project was dry, I added some splatter, using the Ranger Yuletide Mica Stain Spray. You all know what comes next! Stamping! I have to have some text details! So, I use the text stamp from the Tim Holtz „The Poinsettia“ stamp set, with Candied Apple Distress Oxide ink and I added the text all around the project. Then I added more splatter, this time with Picket Fence (white) Distress Paint. I used Jet Black Archival ink to darken the edges of my pages, and the background was done!

Time to prepare my images. As I said, I really wanted to use my Snarky Cats stamp set. So, my main images come from the Tim Holtz „Snarky Cats Christmas“ stamp set. They are stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured with alcohol markers. I cut the cats out by hand, as there are no available cutting dies for this stamp set. I had my cats. I still needed something for them to play on. Around Christmas, I always see those images of cats destroying Christmas trees and I always find them funny (maybe because I never had a cat destroying my tree…). So, I thought I should give my cats some Christmas tree branches. I used the Sizzix Holiday Brushstroke #2 Thinlits set to cut a few branches out of watercolour paper. To colour the branches, I used the ink smooshing technique with Distress Oxide inks, in colours: Pine Needles, Ristic Wilderness and Mowed Lawn. I placed the branches on the top left and lower right part of my project and then I added a little bit (…well… a lot…) of Nuvo Ivory Seashell Crystal Drops on them. I was trying to make it look like they had snow on them. I don’t think it worked as I wanted it to work, but it still looks pretty. Once the Crystal Drops were dry, I placed the cats on the branches and I added a little bit of shadow around them, using Walnut Stain Distress Oxide ink and a stiff brush.

My sentiment comes from the Tim Holtz „Snarky Cats Christmas“ stamp set. It is stamped with Jet Black Archival ink on white cardstock. I added a little bit of Walnut Stain Distress Oxide ink on the sentiment piece and then I made the edges black with Jet Black Archival ink. I placed it on the lower part of my left page, right next to the little bird who is watching the cat sliding down the tree branch, in fear of the coming collision. I just found that funny. My sentiment says: „It’s all fun and games ‚till Santa checks the naughty list“. Isn’t that every child’s fear around Christmas? As a last little bit of embellishment, I added a few dots of Nuvo Ruby Slippers Glitter Drops on the branches, to make them look like they had berries on them.

And that was the project for today! I love the Snarky Cats stamp sets! The images are amazing and the sentiments are just so funny! Now, I do not promise that I will make Christmas project through the whole of July. I do not like this sort of commitment. It is summer after all, and it is not always easy to get into the Christmas mood when the world is burning under the summer sun. But we might still have some Christmas fun. Hallo zusammen! Willkommen zurück zu einem weiteren Mixed-Media Projekt. Der Juli ist da und ich dachte, wir begrüßen den Monat mit einem Weihnachtsprojekt. Denn ist es Weihnachten im Juli! Außerdem habe ich nach einem Grund gesucht, mein Snarky Cats Stempelset zu verwenden 😛 Beginnen wir mit den Materialien, die ich verwendet habe:

Für das heutige Projekt habe ich in einem Aquarellbuch gearbeitet, da ich wusste, dass ich nasse Malmittel verwenden würde. Ich habe mit einer dicken Schicht Gesso begonnen, um das Papier zu verstärken. Anschließend habe ich mit der Poinsettia Layering Schablone und Ranger Distress Translucent Grit Paste etwas Struktur hinzugefügt. Ich trage die Paste gerne zuerst auf, bevor ich die Farbe auftrage, da sich die Farbe dann um die Paste sammelt und einen sehr schönen Effekt erzeugt. Ich habe die Paste trocknen lasse, bevor ich Farbe hinzufüge. Zum Kolorieren meiner Seiten habe ich Distress Oxide Tinten in den Farben Pine Needles, Mustard Seed, Candied Apple und Spun Sugar verwendet. Ich habe die Tinten aufgesprüht, etwas Wasser hinzugefügt, die Farben kurz vermischen lassen, den Überschuss abgetupft und die Seiten anschließend getrocknet. Ich habe jeweils eine Farbkombination verwendet (zuerst Grün und Gelb, dann Rot und Rosa), da ich eine zu starke Vermischung vermeiden wollte. Es ist immer leichter, die Farben zu kontrollieren, wenn ich jeweils nur eine Farbe verwende. Nachdem mein Projekt getrocknet war, habe ich mit dem Ranger Yuletide Mica Stain Spray etwas Spritzer hinzugefügt. Ihr wisst schon, was als Nächstes kommt! Stempeln! Ich brauche unbedingt Textdetails! Also habe ich den Textstempel aus dem Tim Holtz „The Poinsettia“ Stempelset mit Candied Apple Distress Oxide Tinte verwendet und den Text rundherum auf das Projekt aufgetragen. Dann habe ich noch mehr Spritzer hinzugefügt, diesmal mit Picket Fence (weiß) Distress Paint. Die Ränder meiner Seiten habe ich mit Jet Black Archival Ink abgedunkelt, und fertig war der Hintergrund!

Zeit, meine Bilder vorzubereiten. Wie gesagt, wollte ich unbedingt mein Snarky Cats Stempelset verwenden. Meine Hauptbilder stammen daher aus dem Tim Holtz „Snarky Cats Christmas“ Stempelset. Sie sind mit Memento Tuxedo Black Tinte gestempelt und mit Alkoholmarkern koloriert. Ich habe die Katzen von Hand ausgeschnitten, da es für dieses Stempelset keine Stanzformen gibt. Ich hatte meine Katzen. Mir fehlte aber noch etwas für die Katzen zum Spielen. Um Weihnachten herum sehe ich immer wieder Bilder von Katzen, die Weihnachtsbäume zerstören, und ich finde sie immer lustig (vielleicht, weil noch nie eine Katze meinen Baum zerstört hat …). Also dachte ich, ich sollte meinen Katzen ein paar Weihnachtsbaumzweige geben. Ich habe das Sizzix Holiday Brushstroke #2 Thinlits Set verwendet, um ein paar Zweige aus Aquarellpapier auszuschneiden. Zum Kolorieren der Zweige habe ich die Ink Smooshing Technik mit Distress Oxide Tinten in den Farben Pine Needles, Ristic Wilderness und Mowed Lawn verwendet. Ich habe die Zweige oben links und unten rechts in meinem Projekt platziert und dann ein wenig (… na ja, viel…) Nuvo Ivory Seashell Crystal Drops hinzugefügt. Ich wollte, dass es so aussieht, als ob Schnee darauf wäre. Ich glaube zwar nicht, dass es so funktioniert hat, wie ich es wollte, aber es sieht trotzdem hübsch aus. Nachdem die Crystal Drops getrocknet waren, habe ich die Katzen auf den Zweigen platziert und mit Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Tinte und einem steifen Pinsel etwas Schatten um sie herum hinzugefügt.

Mein Spruch stammt aus dem „Snarky Cats Christmas“ Stempelset von Tim Holtz. Er ist mit Jet Black Archival Tinte auf weißem Karton gestempelt. Ich habe etwas Walnut Stain Distress Oxide Tinte auf den Spruch aufgetragen und die Ränder mit Jet Balck Archival Tinte schwarz gefärbt. Ich habe ihn unten auf der linken Seite platziert, direkt neben dem kleinen Vogel, der der Katze beim Herunterrutschen am Ast zusieht und Angst vor dem bevorstehenden Zusammenstoß hat. Das fand ich einfach lustig. Mein Spruch lautet: „Alles ist Spaß und Spiel, bis der Weihnachtsmann die Unartigen-Liste prüft.“ Ist das nicht die Angst jedes Kindes an Weihnachten? Als letzte kleine Verzierung habe ich ein paar Punkte Nuvo Ruby Slippers Glitter Drops auf die Zweige gesetzt, damit sie aussehen, als wären sie mit Beeren bewachsen.

Und das war das Projekt für heute! Ich liebe die Snarky Cats Stempelsets! Die Motive sind fantastisch und die Sprüche einfach so witzig! Ich verspreche jetzt nicht, dass ich den ganzen Juli über Weihnachtsprojekte mache. Ich mag solche Verpflichtungen nicht. Schließlich ist es Sommer, und es ist nicht immer leicht, in Weihnachtsstimmung zu kommen, wenn die Welt unter der Sommersonne brennt. Aber vielleicht haben wir ja trotzdem etwas Weihnachtsspaß.
